FEMA chooses recipients based on the applicant’s ranking of the project and the eligibility and cost-effectiveness of the project.
FEMA requires state, local, tribal and territorial governments to develop and adopt hazard mitigation plans as a condition for receiving certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance, including funding for hazard mitigation assistance projects
FEMA released a NOFO on August 4, 2020. The NOFO is posted on grants.gov and provides detailed program information and other grant application and administration requirements.
The application period to apply for fiscal year 2020 FMA funding was opened on September 30, 2020. There is $160 million available in FMA funding. For more detailed information on applying, visit the NOFO webpage. FEMA encourages applicants and subapplicants to apply for FMA funding before the deadline on January 29, 2021 at 3 p.m. Applications submitted after this deadline will not be considered for funding. Project selections for awards is anticipated in Summer 2021.
